Sleek East London boxpark

Boxpark Shoreditch was London’s first pop-up shopping mall made completely from low-risk, low-cost, ‘box shops’ — shipping containers. The mall is made from 61 containers total – 41 of them pack the lower section in a simple rectangular footprint.

Installed in late 2011, Boxpark is founded by Boxfresh entrepreneur Roger Wade who, with developers Hammerson and Ballymore, has filled the mall with major fashion labels such as Dockers, Evisu and Nike, book publishers Phaidon and Scandinavian interiors brand Marimekko, to an emergence of food and drink and independent local businesses.

The inspiration behind the shipping container idea has been linked to Illy Café New York, Puma in Chicago, and Freitag in Zurich.
